Although Thursday’s slate boasts just three games, it offers several A-list point guard options. We will have to pay up to get in on the fun (money), but the affordable options appear to be there for just such a feat! Let’s dig in!
KEMBA WALKER – CHARLOTTE HORNETS (FD- $8,300, DK- $8,400)
I love Kemba Walker. He is clutch, can score and plays almost 34 minutes per game. The Suns rank in the bottom third of the league against opposing point guards, and Kemba should be able to take advantage of the solid match-up.
To get both Walker and Westbrook in our lineups will be a challenge, but I am going to try to pair them in all GPP games I play tonight.
Note: I love Damian Lillard tonight as well, but it will be tough to afford him in a lineup with Russ.
RUSSELL WESTBROOK – OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER (FD- $12,800, DK- $13,300)
As everyone knows, Westbrook is a triple-double machine. Although Portland guards his position well, Russell Westbrook is an unstoppable force. He plays virtually the entire game, and has his hands on the ball for a huge portion of each Thunder possession.
I hate paying up so much for a single player, but I don’t know if a winning lineup can be produced without Russell in it on this slate.
KLAY THOMPSON – GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS (FD- $7,000, DK- $7,200)
Klay Thompson is always a solid play, but with the Kevin Durant injury news breaking yesterday, Thompson becomes a near must-play tonight. He should see more touches and shot attempts with Durant sidelined. Couple this with his precision shooting ability, and Thompson has a very high ceiling. I will be rostering Klay tonight!
VICTOR OLADIPO – OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER (FD- $6,000, DK- $5,800)
Injuries have been a struggle for Victor Oladipo over the past few weeks, but while healthy he has shown flashes of his offensive potential and incredible athleticism. In his last five games Oladipo has scored 20 or more three times. Given the Blazers rank near the bottom of the league against shooting guards, Vic is primed for a big night at an affordable price.
His injury status is worth monitoring, but if he suits up without a minutes restriction, he is a great play.
Update: News just broke that Oladipo is out again tonight, making Alex Abrines an excellent buy who should start and see a ton of minutes!
MAURICE HARKLESS – PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS (FD- $4,800, DK- $4,800)
Maurice Harkless gets a great match-up tonight against the Thunder. The pace of the game should be extremely high and OKC doesn’t guard small forwards well. Moe is playing 30 plus minutes per night and should hit or exceed value against the Thunder defense.
Harkless is a great play on this slate, and as a budget buy, frees up some salary space for Westbrook and Walker.
ANDRE IGUODALA – GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS (FD- $4,800, DK- $4,900)
Andre Iguodala should benefit greatly from the absence of Kevin Durant. Though he is not the athlete he used to be, AI can contribute when called upon. With such a low price tag and an up-tick in minutes, Iggy should reach value tonight against a mid-tier Bulls defense.
Update: Patrick McCaw will start at small Forward rather than Iguodala. If you need a budget buy as the position, behold!
TJ WARREN – PHOENIX SUNS (FD- $5,800, DK- $5,500)
T.J. Warren gets an excellent match-up against the worst ranked defense versus his position. He has seen 32 minutes or more in every game since the Tucker trade, and that should be the same tonight. Warren is one of my favorite plays on the board, and I will be shocked if he doesn’t exceed value.
Note: T.J. Warren is listed as small forward on Fanduel.
DRAYMOND GREEN – GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS (FD- $8,300, DK- $8,000)
Draymond Green has been up and down over his last few outings, but his involvement in the offense and skill-set mean he is almost always an elite play. Durant’s injury should also result in extra ball possession and shots for Green, and Chicago is just average against opposing power forwards. If I can find the budget for him, Green will be in my lineups tonight, especially in cash contests.
JUSUF NURKIC – PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS (FD- $5,400, DK- $5,600)
It’s been fun to watch Jusuf Nurkic get a second life in Portland, and all signs indicate he will continue to be a key component in his new team’s system. The Bosnian behemoth has played 20 plus minutes in every game with the Blazers, and he has been productive for Portland thus far. The center position is weak tonight, and I am banking on Nurkic to play well.
FRANK KAMINSKY – CHARLOTTE HORNETS (FD- $6,200, DK- $7,200)
Frank Kaminsky has been on a tear while Cody Zeller has been out with injury, and the center spot for Charlotte appears to be his to lose. Kaminsky can shoot from anywhere, and his 7’ frame makes him a load to defend in the paint.
I have been a fan of Kaminsky for sometime, and I look for his recent success to continue tonight.
