• The NBA announced the All-Summer League First and Second Teams today despite the fact that the Summer League Finals have yet to go down.

When Minnesota and Chicago face off tonight to determine the Summer League Championship it’ll feature two members of the First Team, as recently-anointed MVP Tyus Jones will try to take down Bobby Portis and the Bulls. Minnesota, entering the tournament phase of Summer League as the 24th seed, will be looking to continue their strong run of play after knocking off the top seeded Raptors and bouncing Phoenix in the semifinals.

The top of this year’s rookie class is well represented, with Ben Simmons earning First Team honors and third overall selection Jaylen Brown making the Second Team. Even if your team’s top rookie didn’t earn accolades, it’s fun to watch promising young players take the floor in a relaxed environment.

While the Las Vegas results are fairly meaningless, it’s always nice to be recognized for strong play. If anything, the NBA deserves credit for developing a decent following for Summer League. Generating interest in any sport’s preseason is a tough task and the success of LVSL is a testament to the league’s popularity.
