Wolves beat writer Kent Youngblood wrote on Saturday that trade speculation surrounding Ricky Rubio, Kris Dunn and Jimmy Butler “could linger through the summer.”
Yes it could. While the draft is always fertile ground for trades anything involving Butler isn’t going to be a knee-jerk response, and there is plenty of time for these two parties to check into other options and still come back to the table for a deal.
While Dunn was a late-riser in the draft and a lot of media seemed to get on board with that, we’re not so sure that his defense is as good as advertised and like most rookies he has flaws in his offensive game that he needs to work out.
Rubio seems like he’s all-but out of Minnesota but the Bulls aren’t going to bite on a deal including him as the main piece in a Butler trade.
The teams are probably going to see how free agency plays out and look at options to bring in a third team (if necessary) after that. A trade obviously isn’t imminent and we wouldn’t even call it probable at this point, but there’s certainly a reason to stay tuned to this story.
