Earlier we discussed Team USA’s potential roster heading into the 2016 Summer Olympics. As noted, USA Basketball has been preparing two rosters: one with and one without LeBron James.
That contingency plan is a wise one, as Yahoo’s Chris Mannix is reporting that LeBron James is leaning towards skipping the Olympics.
LeBron is set to take a well-deserved summer off after a truly legendary postseason. Fresh off of leading Cleveland to a historic series comeback and earning a Finals MVP, LeBron should put his feet up and soak it all in.
Team USA is still in good shape, especially since Kevin Durant has confirmed his participation. Obviously USA Basketball can withstand a litany of withdrawals and still field an ultra-talented roster, and this summer presents a fun opportunity for players who might not normally make the cut. Even without names like James, Curry, Westbrook, Harden, Paul and Wall the team should be able to win gold.
James will be exercising his well-earned right to sit this one out. The re-minted Best Player On Earth will focus on rest, recovery and revamping as the Cavs will look to defend their title next season.
