• I hesitate to bring politics into things, but at this point there’s an undeniable problem.

Michael Jordan has now spoken out, joining countless other athletes around the country. In a tremendous act of charity, Jordan has decided to donate $1 million to both the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the International Association of Chiefs of Police’s Institute for Community-Police Relations.

Jordan released a lengthy statement on The Undefeated and mentioned how his own father’s passing helps him identify with today’s struggle.

“As a proud American, a father who lost his own dad in a senseless act of violence, and a black man, I have been deeply troubled by the deaths of African-Americans at the hands of law enforcement and angered by the cowardly and hateful targeting and killing of police officers. I grieve with the families who have lost loved ones, as I know their pain all too well.

Jordan is simply hoping for constructive change and growth through education, conversation and heavy doses of empathy and compassion; things which unfortunately seem in short supply as of late. It’s a noble act from the all-time great.
