The Kings’ busy week continues on Saturday night as they play host to the Utah Jazz.
The Jazz, sitting at 32-30 on the season, have playoff aspirations and sit 2.0 game behind the Nuggets for the eight spot in the West. The two teams have met just once prior to tonight and it wasn’t close. Utah ran away with the victory 120-105 behind Donovan Mitchell’s 34 points, including 23 in the second half alone.
Containing Mitchell will be a top priority for Sacramento tonight. He’s the main source of offense in Utah and if the Kings can find a way to at least restrict him, it’ll make their life easier. The Jazz also posses a strong frontcourt in Derrick Favors and Rudy Gobert. Their size and ability down low will be a challenge for Zach Randolph and company to contain. Willie Cauley-Stein is unlikely to play with lower back pain which will mean more minutes for the likes of Skal Labissiere, Kosta Koufos and potentially Bruno Caboclo, who hasn’t played since Monday.
The Jazz are one of the top defensive units in the league, and for a team like the Kings that struggles to score as it is it might be tough sledding. They’ll need to play with pace and coherency in order to maneuver around the defensive prowess on the other side. The Kings have scored over 100 points in four of their last five outings and have generally been pushing the pace more on offense, generally producing good results.
The Kings snapped a five-game losing streak with Thursday’s win over the Nets, taking care of business in overtime 116-111. De’Aaron Fox helped send the game to overtime with a nifty floater at the buzzer.

They’ll be looking to carry that momentum into tonight’s contest in the hopes of denting Utah’s playoff-hopeful run. Sacramento are firmly out of the picture when it comes to the postseason, but that doesn’t mean they can’t play spoiler for other teams.
