• The Kings are set to open their preseason at the Golden 1 Center against the well-oiled machine that is the San Antonio Spurs.

It will be the first opportunity for fans to get a look at the new Kings roster which added a nice blend of players over the offseason. There’s plenty of minutes up for grabs so guys are going to be playing hard whenever they are on the floor.

Veterans like George Hill, Zach Randolph and Vince Carter are primed to get minutes either way but they’ll be making the youngsters earn their keep. We could get some insight into Dave Joerger’s rotation plans for the regular season but with it being the first game of preseason, the rotations will likely be all over the place.

Joerger did mention that he plans to play everyone against the Spurs so it’ll be interesting to see how minutes are distributed.

It’s not about wins during the preseason, but wins and team-play will help the Kings grow closer as a team and it will help with their mental development. The Spurs are always going to present challenges, no matter the occasion or personnel on the floor so Sacramento will have to play hard.

Throughout training camp we caught glimpses of what may be a fast-paced offense in Sacramento. With the overwhelming amount of young players on the roster, getting this team to run and play with pace is a smart move but there will be some significant growing pains.

With a system like this, it may not be pretty at times, especially during preseason. However, the Kings added veterans to make a transition like this easier so hopefully it balances out nicely.

Staying healthy throughout this game and other games during preseason is another thing the Kings will put emphasis on. There’s plenty of depth on the roster and no need to risk further injury at this stage of the year.
