Sacramento appeared to be heading toward a tough game in their fourth and final game of the road trip after playing in Philadelphia the night before, but the team was able to hold off the Nets for their second straight victory.
The Kings got George Hill back after a one-game absence, but the team was still shorthanded in the backcourt with De’Aaron Fox out for the second time in three games. The Kings were still able to get off to a great start, shooting 76.2 percent as a team in the first quarter while holding Brooklyn to just 6-for-21 shooting from the field. Zach Randolph’s hot start helped get the team rolling and he also managed to grab the 10,000th rebound of his career in the first few minutes.
Sacramento wasn’t quite as dominant in the second quarter, but the team was still able to outscore Brooklyn by a point and finish the first half with a 17-point lead. The early lead gave the team a good opportunity to put the game away in the third quarter, but the Kings couldn’t maintain their edge offensively allowing Brooklyn to keep the game close heading into the final quarter.
Brooklyn continued to chip away at the lead in the fourth, cutting it to just two points with 11 seconds left, but it was too little too late as the Kings won 104-99. Sacramento will now have a couple days off before heading back to Sacramento for a game against the Spurs Saturday night.
NOTES FROM THE GAME:
- The Kings have struggled to score much this season, but Wednesday night’s game was easily one of their best offensive performances of the season. Most of the players that came into the game made an impact on that end of the floor with Buddy Hield being the surprising exception. Hield has been the leader on offense on quite a few occasions this season, but he clearly didn’t have it in this one.
- Hill had one of his best games of the season in Brooklyn scoring 22 points on just nine shots while also grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out four assists. Hill has been playing much better in the month of December, and his performance Wednesday night was a big factor in the win.
