The Kings are reportedly exploring all options with the No. 2 overall pick in June’s draft, according to Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee.
From the Sacramento Bee:
“The Kings are exploring all options with the second pick, said a source familiar with the team’s thinking. The front office sees elite talent in this draft, and multiple players and scenarios are being explored.
“Doncic is expected to be an option. But so will Missouri forward Michael Porter Jr., Michigan State forward Jaren Jackson Jr., Texas center Mohamed Bamba and Duke forward Marvin Bagley III.”
Jones also confirmed that Kings General Manager Vlade Divac was present at the Euroleague Final Four scouting Luka Doncic. Two additional team scouts, per Jones, were also there.
The Kings are doing the right thing by keeping all of their options open with the second pick. The Suns’ decision with the first pick will obviously play a part in what Sacramento decides to do themselves, but the general consensus, at this stage, is that Arizona’s Deandre Ayton goes No. 1.
The draft is still over three weeks away. The Kings will continue to bring in draft prospects for workouts in the lead up, and sometime soon some top-tier prospects should be in Sacramento to meet with the team and workout.
Sacramento also holds the 37th overall pick, but the obvious focal point is what they’ll do at No. 2. Most mock drafts, as of now, have the Kings taking Doncic.
