Afflalo had a contract trigger date on Friday that would have guaranteed his $12.5 million salary for this upcoming season. Instead, the Kings will stomach just $1.5 million of his salary next season; or, stretch that owed salary over three years (500k per season).
Sacramento now has an additional $11 million in cap space to spend this summer and the move also frees up more playing time for the younger players on the roster. The Kings could have as much as $52 million in cap space this summer, the most in the NBA.
In 61 games with the Kings last season, Afflalo had averages 8.4 points and 2.0 rebounds in 25.9 minutes per game on 44.0 percent shooting from the field (41.1 percent from three). The 31-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent.
