Rose was waived by the Utah Jazz after getting traded by the Cleveland Cavaliers this season, averaging 9.8 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists on 43.9 percent shooting in 19.3 minutes per game this season. He’s played in just 16 games due to personal reasons.
It’s no secret that Tom Thibodeau has an affinity for his former Bulls’ teams, and Rose was among the best when he was healthy. Thibodeau is building a culture in Minnesota and his former players laid the foundation for his legacy, completely buying into his system with great results.
Rose reunites with Jimmy Butler, Taj Gibson and Aaron Brooks, along with his former coach.
The deal appears to just be for the rest of the season.
The rest of the season contract for Derrick Rose will be $460,468. The Timberwolves will have a $290,951 cap hit. Rose still has roughly $460K left on his $2.3M contract that he signed with Cleveland.
