Former Pacers head coach Nate McMillan, who was fired despite reaching the playoffs in each of his five seasons in Indiana, is receiving consideration from the Hawks for head coach Lloyd Pierce's staff heading in the 2020-21 season.

McMillan is obviously still highly regarded in the NBA coaching and front office community. There's no question that he had more success than failure with the Pacers, especially given their payroll limitations. He is known for getting the best out of his players and would likely be a solid fit for any NBA coaching staff. The Hawks have an extremely young core so a McMillan hire seems logical. At any rate, McMillan seems increasingly likely to find himself right back on the NBA sidelines next season.

Stephen Silas is set to officially become the Rockets' next head coach, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

Silas, who grew up with an NBA coach for a father, is receiving an opportunity to lead a franchise after finishing a successful tenure as a lead assistant under Rick Carlisle with the Mavs. When it comes to the Rockets, the biggest obstacle will be cohesiveness – something that has proven to be difficult at times with both Russell Westbrook and James Harden on the floor. The roster is built for their former head coach Mike D'Antoni, who got rid of nearly every non-guard the Rockets had at the trade deadline in February. The front office could shuffle up the roster significantly depending on the discussions they have had with Silas to this point. Stay tuned in the coming weeks to the what is going on in Houston. Their draft strategy could be changing by the day.

Malik Beasley

Malik Beasley has been charged with threats of violence and drug possession following his September 27 arrest in Plymouth, Minnesota, according to Shams Charania of the Athletic.

The details of Beasley's situation are still a bit murky, but it seems as though he was trying to protect his residence from 'a couple' during a parade of homes tour. Beasley allegedly pointed his gun, an assault rifle, at a family who was outside of his home. To make matters worse, Charania adds that Beasley was also hit with a fifth-degree drug possession charge. This is not good news for Beasley and, unfortunately, seems to be far from over.

Mike D'Antoni, who was recently let go of his head coaching duties by the Rockets, has been hired to Steve Nash's coaching staff as the head assistant for the Brooklyn Nets for the upcoming 2020-21 season.

This is a key hire for GM Sean Marks and Co. after the Nash hiring. Nash has essentially zero coaching experience, NBA or otherwise, so hiring a veteran coach with lots of experience seems like a very logical move. The Nets are looking to compete for a title right away, as Nash stated earlier this week, and D'Antoni will undoubtedly be a key component of the Nets' offensive plans. The introduction of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving into the lineup at the same time is something Nets fans have been waiting over a year to see.

Marc Stein is reporting that players may only be offered a 50-game season if they insist on a mid-January start rather than the December 22 start that's being pushed by the owners.

The owners want as many games as possible so they can make money off broadcasts, while an earlier start would also help them dodge the Summer Olympics. Some players, predictably, do not want to pick things up again so soon after what will basically amount to a two-month offseason under the December plan, especially with the draft, free agency and training camps so condensed on that schedule. Expect more negotiations-through-media as we go, with resolution hopefully coming soon one way or the other.
