Ty Lawson scored 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting (2-of-3 3PTs, 3-of-4 FTs) with three rebounds, four assists and two steals in 28 minutes off the bench on Friday against the Wolves.
Lawson has been the only offensive threat on the floor at times in the second unit and as a result the team has needed him to take charge — and he has shaken confidence issues to respond. It’s unfair to compare him to Darren Collison (three points, 1-of-5 FGs, one board, one trey, six assists, 20 minutes) because Collison has to contend with the DeMarcus Cousins/Kosta Koufos pairing that comes with a side of Ben McLemore and Matt Barnes.
Even when Koufos plays well as he did tonight, it’s a wreck for Collison and it would similarly be a wreck for Lawson is he got those minutes. Dave Joerger seems committed to the arrangement but he might switch the players and then you’d see the same impact. We’re holding and buying low on Collison and we’re not adding Lawson outside of deep formats.
