The Knicks waived second-year guard Allonzo Trier on Friday.
The product out of Arizona was let go in order to make room for Theo Pinson. Trier saw his role reduced during his second season with the Knicks, but he has proven to be a decent penetrator at the NBA level. He has a fair chance to get picked up by another team seeking a scoring guard. His pending restricted free agency was probably weighing on the Knicks as they often seek to keep cap room available to chase after all-star level free agents.
