The Pelicans led the NBA last year in pace, averaging 102.72 possessions per 48 minutes played, but Alvin Gentry is looking forward to his team pushing for an even faster pace heading into the 2018-19 season.
A big part of the increased pace was obviously Rajon Rondo but the Pelicans believe that newly-acquired guard Elfrid Payton can help the offense keep moving. Julius Randle can play power forward or center but he has been one of the better passing big men in recent years averaging 3.6 and 2.6 assists per game the last couple years. The team played faster in the Portland series last year when they averaged 114.5 points per game so Gentry will be looking to build on the success of that model going forward.
