Asked about his changing role in the postseason and its potential ramifications for next season, Carmelo Anthony said, "I'm not sacrificing no bench role. So that's out of the question."
This opens up the door for a potentially ugly game of chicken with Melo weighing whether or not he should opt-in for next year. He's not going to make anywhere nearly as much ($28 million) on the open market but the Thunder could try and force his hand by declaring him a bench guy moving forward. Anthony also didn't seem thrilled with his role this year on the whole, and he was absolutely exposed in the postseason even as his minutes fell. Should be a fun, stress-free summer for OKC.
