• Celtics GM Danny Ainge told reporters that the team and impending free agent Marcus Smart “[h]ave had some conversations, but we haven’t really got into negotiating.

    Smart should be in line for a nice payday next summer if he has a strong season this year. Teams, the Celtics included, love his tenacious defense and toughness. Unfortunately for both Smart and fantasy owners, his ugly 3-point shooting caps his potential earnings and fantasy value. Any steps forward in efficiency would be huge for a player who can already contribute to assists and steals in helpful quantities, and Smart is well worth a late-round selection even if the shots don’t fall any more frequently than you’re used to.
