The Clippers never committed to giving Chris Paul the five-year $201 million dollar max contract that was expected to be offered to him before he was traded on Wednesday.
The Clips were hesitant due to the fact that in the final year of his contract CP3 would be getting $46 million dollars as a 37 year old point guard on a team that likes to run and gun. Ultimately the Clips just didn’t think it was worth bogging down their books with Chris Paul being on the wrong side of 30 even though he was their franchise player. The Clippers are now looking towards rebuilding and re-signing Blake Griffin while Chris Paul is looking to finally make his first Western Conference Finals in 12 seasons with the Houston Rockets. It goes without saying, but CP3 will still warrant a late first/early second round pick in all draft formats.
