The Cavs are trying to rework their offense so teams can’t focus solely on LeBron James, and increasing touches for Rodney Hood is a priority for coach Lue.
Opponents have been able to skate by by clamping down on LeBron, so the team is trying to add some unpredictability into the mix. Lue wants Hood and Jordan Clarkson to stay aggressive, saying “we have to make sure we have a balance of getting the ball in his hands and getting the ball in Jordan’s hands with that second unit and letting those guys be aggressive.” Hood has been a disappointing fantasy play since the trade to Cleveland, with his FGAs dropping from 14.2 to 9.0, but could be due for a nice uptick if the Cavs follow through here. They worked with a new offensive structure during Monday’s practice that is initiated by a pass into the elbow followed by a variety of options from that point. That’s going to be LeBron’s spot more often than not but Larry Nance Jr. and Jeff Green were named as the main actors in the second unit, so they could also stand to benefit from any changes.
