The Mavs let a second half lead slip away on Wednesday, a process which was helped along by some poor showings from their point guard trio including 4-of-16 shooting from Dennis Smith.
Smith finished with 12 points, six rebounds and two steals but his efficiency is what’s keeping him outside the top-175 this season. He’s down to .401 on 14.5 attempts per game this season, and clearly the long leash he has as Dallas’ guard of the future isn’t always helpful. Veteran J.J. Barea shot 3-of-9 but picked up a quiet 9-5-6 line while Yogi Ferrell was an also-ugly 3-of-8 from the floor en route to eight points and seven boards. None of these guys are standard league assets right now but the elevated draft price on DSJ means that he’s probably avoided hitting the waiver wire.
