D’Angelo Russell (rest) participated during Monday’s practice.
It was just a rest day on Saturday for him so we fully expect Russell to be a go for Monday’s game. He should be awesome to own for the rest of the season once he gets healthy. Brandon Ingram will head back to the bench upon his return.
Update: Luke Walton spoke about the injury. “Hopefully it doesn’t turn into this type of thing where he misses a game, plays a game, misses a game,” Walton said of Russell. “We need to get that continuity with our players, so hopefully that’s not the case. Obviously we’ll see how the knee feels. He’s not going to play if it’s killing him … We’ll keep a close eye on it over the week or so and see how it’s playing out.”
Reports indicate that Russell has looked good in practice so hopefully this is just Walton being careful, though it does indicate some wait-and-see thinking on his part. Owners have to consider the possibility that he’s dealing with something serious, but we’re going to bet against that in terms of changing our outlook.
