Rookie center Mitchell Robinson continues to prove to teammates and the coaching staff that he is not raw and he is not a project.
“I think there’s a misconception about this kid because he didn’t go to college that one year that he’s not a smart kid or there’s something wrong with him,” Fizdale said. “Nah, this kid knows how to play. He’s got a great work ethic. He thinks about things, so he comes in and asks great questions to our coaching staff. I just feel like this kid is going to take off with this kind of structure.” Though Robinson didn’t go to college, opting to train for the draft after high-school graduation, he has picked up where he left off after an eye-opening Las Vegas Summer League, where he averaged a double-double (13.0 points, 10.2 rebounds) and 4.0 blocks. It’s too early to label him the steal of the 2018 draft after being taken in the second round, but it will be interesting to see how the Knicks deploy him in a season where the priority seems to be the development of the young players in the roster.
