David Griffin, the Pelicans vice president of basketball operations, assured Jrue Holiday that he was not on the trading block, a day before a report came out saying he was available.
“So this is funny, actually,” Griffin said in an interview with Fox Sports New Orleans during Tuesday’s game. “I was with Jrue yesterday. We had a conversation, and I explained to him that there will be a story that we should trade you or are trying to trade you. It just so happened that it came the very next day, so we actually laughed about it.” Sunday marked the first day free agents who inked new deals last summer were eligible to be traded. The Pelicans have been pegged as potential sellers because they have gotten off to such a dismal start. If Holiday was to become available, he would be a highly coveted player, but his fantasy value is likely to remain unaffected.
