• Dennis Smith Jr.
    PG, Dallas Mavericks

Dennis Smith Jr. scored 17 points and added three rebounds, two assists, two steals, a block and a 3-pointer against the Knicks on Tuesday but shot 6-of-19 to get there.

If you took away the defensive stats this looks a lot like the early-season Smith that was an active detriment to fantasy teams. He’s still outside the top-200 over the last month, so maybe not much has changed. DSJ had a little chip on his shoulder tonight given a lot of the pre-draft talk connecting him and the Knicks before they opted to take Frank Ntilikina, but looked to be forcing some shots. Restraint will serve him well in the future but that’s just a growing pain that will disappear as he develops in the league. He can’t be in fantasy lineups unless you’re punting field goal percentage. If you’re looking in the Dallas backcourt for fantasy value, J.J. Barea is your best bet. He posted 12 points, seven assists and two triples tonight. Yogi Ferrell started and picked up 10 points with two steals and two triples while Kyle Collinsworth went scoreless off the bench despite playing more than Barea. It’s JJB or bust here, with a possible exception to Yogi if you’re looking for points.
