During a six-game trip that concluded on Saturday, Derrick Walton Jr. averaged 17.6 minutes per game and played crunch-time minutes against the Wolves and the Bulls, long way from the 3.7 minutes he averaged in six appearances during the first 22 games.
While Walton’s opportunity can be traced to the mounting injuries in the backcourt, the Clippers’ roster lacks a pure point guard. Walton is steady with the ball and fits that role. He is still only a short-term solution for assists in deeper leagues with Patrick Beverley and Lou Williams battling minor injuries.
