Willy Hernangomez finished with eight points, and nine boards on 3-of-11 from the field and 2-of-2 from the line in Monday’s loss to the Clippers.
The is the third time in the last four games Hernangomez has played under 20 minutes. Coach Jeff Hornacek is at it again with his center minutes merry-go-round. Now that Kristaps Porzingis has been established as the center and veteran star Carmelo Anthony still manning the power forward spot (for now) the Knicks have to play unconventional big lineups in order to get these three guys all minutes. Throw Lance Thomas in the mix as well and it’s hard to predict how the Knicks will find minutes for the likes of Willy and Kyle O’Quinn. Free Willy is still worth holding onto however, if you need the rebounding and he should still see a sizable role with the Knicks as they fade from playoff contention.
