The Pelicans' front office and coaching staff have liked what they've seen from Zion Williamson when he plays at center, and have indicated that they will continue to experiment with him there.
Head Coach Alvin Gentry in particular has shown an early willingness to test Zion out at the five. “We’re going to have to take a look at it" Gentry said "Sometimes we like matchups at the five, with guys having to guard him, and we feel like he can guard them. It gives us a quicker, more (ball movement)-oriented team.” Williamson saw nearly half of his playing time at center in both of his first two games, and the early returns appear to show that it can work well for the Pelicans. Should he see a lot of time there once he's fully ramped up to speed that will obviously take a toll on Derrick Favors' and Jaxson Hayes' playing time.
