Gordon Hayward got poked in the eye but still logged 37 minutes in the Jazz’s road loss to the Kings on Tuesday, scoring 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting (including three treys) with eight rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Hayward has been a top 10-20 play over the last two weeks and he’s a mid-round value on the year. Obviously he’ll keep climbing in the season-to-date standings but the buy low window is shut. All of Hayward’s numbers are incrementally down from last season, and we’re not buying the idea that he’ll take a back seat to the young guns. Rather, we think Hayward has let the young guns establish themselves before he starts to take the reins as the year goes on and the games get more important. A step forward over last year’s numbers should definitely not be ruled out.
