Celtics’ veterans are impressed with Guerschon Yabusele just days into training camp.
The 6’8, 260 pound, Yabusele is trying to get back into the flow of things after undergoing double-ankle surgery in May to remove bone spurs. The 21 year-old has already made an impression on Al Horford, “That kid can play. He can really shoot the ball… He just has a really good feel and he plays hard, so I just think that people are going to love him. I had no idea he could play like this. This has been a really good surprise.”
Yabusele played in China last year where he and Jimmer Fredette led their club to the second best record in the league at 30-8 while he averaged 20.9 points, 9.4 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 1.0 blocks and 1.9 triples on 52.7 percent shooting from the field. After the CBA season was over, he made a two-game cameo for the Maine Red Claws where he averaged 18.5 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.0 triples on a 64.7 field goal percentage. Minutes will be hard to come by out of the gate with Boston’s stacked frontcourt barring an injury so he can be ignored in fantasy leagues.
