Harrison Barnes is expected to start at the SF position for the Mavericks, but also carry the bulk of minutes as backup PF.
Barnes finished 12th in the league in minutes per game last year with 35.5 and theres a good chance he either matches that or outdoes it this season. Dirk Nowitzki is clearly out of his prime and the bulk of the scoring load will fall on the shoulders of Barnes and Dennis Smith Jr. With Smith Jr. being a rookie, expect Harrison Barnes to take control of Dallas’ offense and put up a ton of big nights. He’ll clearly have as much opportunity as he can handle, and when Dirk needs a rest he’ll be moved to the PF. It’s clear that the Mavs are trying to keep Barnes on the court as much as possible, being that he is their best offensive player and might even be their best defensive player. It’s all lining up for Barnes to build upon his breakout season last year.
