Hassan Whiteside finally had a decent game in Miami's first round series with 13 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks on Saturday but will be facing scrutiny for a pair of late defensive miscues.
Down one in the final minute, the Heat completely ignored protecting the paint as Ben Simmons came off a screen and surrendered a thunderous jam. On the next possession, Whiteside got caught on another pick and roll that left J.J. Redick wide open in the corner. The Heat are just lucky that he was a step inside the arc, though it doesn't much matter as they lost anyway. He played 26 minutes today, easily a series high, and his participation (plus some foul issues) limited Kelly Olynyk to just nine minutes and zero points. Bam Adebayo logged 16 with two points, five boards and a block. The Heat could absolutely not afford those late breakdowns on relatively simple plays, so we'll see if those mistakes change the minutes distribution in Game 5.
