With Mike James picking up a surprised DNP on Saturday, it was newcomer Isaiah Canaan who took the backup point guard job by the reins in dropping 15 points, five rebounds and seven assists in 27 minutes of work.
That’s a nice way to introduce yourself to a new organization. Canaan shot 3-of-5 from the field and hit just one triple but did plenty of damage at the free throw line, where he shot a perfect 8-for-8. He was part of a hard-charging bench group that turned this game around and has certainly earned more playing time going forward. James was already on thin ice and might not see more minutes if Canaan can keep up even a fraction of this output. The newcomer isn’t a surefire add just yet but deep league owners should definitely be ready to strike if the minutes are there in the next one.
