Ish Smith played only 24 minutes on Monday night, posting 11 points, six rebounds, two assists and a block in a loss to the Pelicans.
To make matters worse, newly-acquired Jameer Nelson ate into his workload considerably for a second straight game. Nelson went for 12 points, five assists, a 3-pointer and a steal in just 20 minutes. The Pistons had some success working with Smith last season but have seemed hesitant to hand him the reins this season, as he previously lost time to Dwight Buycks (who played just three minutes tonight). While this is a chicken-and-egg debate given Smith’s dip in performance, he’s not shaping up as the difference-making add that owners were hoping for. Ish is just a late-round option these days.
