Hawks’ rookie John Collins hit the glass hard in Sunday’s preseason game against the Heat, grabbing 15 rebounds in 20 minutes.
Collins came off the bench at power forward behind veteran forward Ersan Ilyasova, which will likely be the case come regular season. Despite being a reserve Collins ended with more minutes than Ilyasova, though this is likely due to the team wanting to see what they have in the rookie. Collins could be a nice target in the second half of the season as he could take the starting job if the Hawks are struggling and look to develop him. His offensive game is still fairly raw, but his contributions on the glass and ability to block shots can be valuable if he is given the opportunity.
