A week after signing a two-way contract with the Pistons, Kalin Lucas played five minutes on Monday, making two free throws and missing a 3-pointer.
Lucas played from 2007 until 2011 at Michigan State, averaging 14.2 points and 4.0 assists in 141 career college games, including consecutive Final Four appearances but he went undrafted. The Pistons decided to sign Lucas and Isiah Whitehead as insurance policies after Jose Calderon struggled when Ish Smith missed 19 games with a right abductor tear. Smith returned for two games but left on Wednesday after two minutes of playing time and he hasn’t appeared since, putting Lucas into play.
