The Knicks may hold off on extending Kristaps Porzingis this summer since they'd like to have room to add a max player in the summer of 2019.
New York has already been connected to Kawhi Leonard and Kyrie Irving but we're obviously a long way from either of those two landing with the Knicks. Still, New York is keeping things quiet in free agency and is said to be dealing in only the very short-term this summer. It's a tougher call than it seems on the surface, as they might be able to squeeze KP to slightly more team-favorable terms since he's currently on the shelf due to serious injury. On the other hand, that's unlikely to scare all of the other teams away from offering Porzingis the full max when it's first available. He, and his agent, certainly know that too. Porzingis makes for a risky fantasy pick in re-draft formats as someone who might not debut until December.
