Jeff Hornacek is going to start cutting Carmelo Anthony’s minutes over the final 12 games of the year, according to a report from Frank Isola.
Here we go. Anthony should take a back seat as the Knicks look to see what their young guys can do in another lost season. Melo has fallen to fifth-round value on the year and his fantasy prospects won’t improve next year unless he gets traded or Phil Jackson gets with the times. As for replacing Anthony’s minutes, look for Lance Thomas and Willy Hernangomez to take most of the load. It may also free up Kyle O’Quinn a little bit while Mindaugas Kuzminskas could emerge on the deepest of deep league radars. For now the minutes will presumably be dropping on a sliding scale but a total shutdown isn’t out of the question in a week or two.
