Zach Lowe reported that Bulls forward Lauri Markkanen is gaining weight to play more center.
While Lowe projects the Bulls to have at least a league average offense, he said they still should end up with a bottom-5 defense considering Zach LaVine and Jabari Parker's disinclination on that end. Lowe also mentioned that coach Hoiberg likes the idea of Markkanen at center 'even though Chicago hemorrhaged points in that alignment last season.' It certainly makes sense to at least try to play Lauri a bit at the 5 as Jabari Parker's numbers all indicate he's better at the 4 than the 3. Of course, the Bulls will also be staggering Lauri and Jabari's minutes some as Hoiberg will want rookie Wendell Carter to get as much run as possible as 'an Al Horford-style fulcrum who makes plays in space — a perfect frontcourt partner for Markkanen.'
