Marcus Smart played 31 minutes in Sunday’s Game 1 loss, posting nine points with six assists and three triples on 3-of-9 shooting.
Three, a magic number. Smart shot 3-of-7 from deep and missed a series of good looks late that could’ve gotten the Celtics back into it but he’ll be leaned on heavily for his defensive prowess. He drew an offensive foul on Jimmy Butler (though Smart didn’t need much help to hit the deck) in the closing seconds to give Boston the ball back with a chance to regain the lead and will look to frustrate Chicago’s offensive initiators every second he’s out there. With Chicago loading up to slow down Isaiah Thomas, he’ll have his fair share of open shots as well. He just needs to knock them down.
