On the Talking Schmidt Podcast, Markelle Fultz's new trainer Drew Hanlen confirmed that the rookie had the "yips" and "completely forgot how to shoot."
Finally the tug of war between different factions of the Sixers and Fultz's camp can be laid to rest as Hanlen confirmed what many suspected- that Futlz did not have an injury and his struggles with his shooting were mental. Hanlen's goal is to get Fultz back on track this summer and hopefully closer to his college days when he could hit pull-up threes and and work his hesitation midrange game. Accomplishing these things will open up the rest of Fultz's game as defenders won't be able to simply give him room to brick away. Hanlen noted that "[w]e’ve been working hard every day, working just on rewiring his body and getting kind of a smooth stroke back into his shot. We’re way ahead of pace, where I thought we were going to be. I thought it was going to take me at least six weeks before we had, you know, kind of a serviceable jump shot, and we’ve already started to shoot with a jump in Week 2. It’s not perfect yet, but I think that by the end of the summer, it will be perfect, and he’ll be back rolling and he’ll show people why he was the No. 1 pick."
