Markelle Fultz started and scored 14 points (6-for-11 from the field, 2-of-2 from the stripe) adding four assists, two steals, a block and four turnovers in Friday’s 104-84 victory over Melbourne United.
Fultz scored the Sixers’ first bucket off an assist from Ben Simmons and didn’t look back for the rest of his 23 minutes. He looked composed and aggressive around the rim which is great to see following his lack of confidence last season. Markelle had a few highlight plays including a LeBron-esque chase down block but what really got the crowd off their feet was a nice looking pull-up elbow jumper off the dribble that he knocked down in stride. He didn’t attempt a three so we’ll have to wait on that front. We’ll be paying attention to how his ADP moves as word (and video) gets around. For his part, J.J. Redick had 15 points (two 3s) off the bench in 20 minutes, so he should be fine as a late round guy whether he starts or not.
