According to Marc Stein, the Dallas Mavericks are turning down Dirk Nowitzki's $5 million team option for next season.
Per Stein, this is a mutual decision and the Mavs and Dirk plan to negotiate a new contract when free agency begins in July. At a minimum, they could sign Dirk to a two-year $9 million (mid-level exception) which would keep him in Dallas until he decides to ride off into the sunset. The MLE would be possible after Dallas makes their other moves (ahem, DeAndre Jordan) and hits the salary cap.
