Mike Malone says that Jamal Murray won the starting point guard role due to his fit with the other starters, per Harrison Wind.
Malone cites Murray’s ability to space the floor and play efficiently was the major factor in the decision. Murray had a fairly quiet night in the season opener, scoring just eight point on two 3-pointers. Malone went with Will Barton and Gary Harris a lot so Murray’s minutes could be somewhat restricted despite the fact he’s starting. Murray remains a late round value guy.
