The NBA will hold its first set of upcoming scrimmage games in the Disney World bubble with 10-minute quarters instead of the usual 12.
The exhibition slate begins this Wednesday and the league has shortened things up to avoid unnecessary wear and tear on the players, who have not played competitive hoops in over four months. Each team plays three such contests, and the first one will be played under the new rules while the last two will have the usual 12-minute frames. The games will be played between Eastern and Western Conference teams deemed to be unlikely opponents once the season and playoffs resume, and Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said that he's talking to opposing coaches to see if there are any specific situations that they want to work on in a game setting. It won't quite be real NBA action, but it's the next step in getting things started up again.
