The Nets still hope to find Jahlil Okafor some playing time down the stretch this season, and Kenny Atkinson called him “a victim of circumstance.”
It’s unclear which circumstances Atkinson is referring to. It could be the initial need for Okafor to learn the playbook, which was followed by him needing to improve his conditioning. That begat a few appearances and then a departure from the rotation. Since, Okafor has missed time with an illness and will now need to work on his conditioning again. Perhaps the circumstances at play have to do with the Nets having only one other center on the roster, and a thinly-built rookie at that. Any way you cut it, Okafor is running out of excuses and the circumstances may have more to do with his own abilities than anything else. Leave him on the wire no matter what the Nets keep saying.
