Nikola Jokic scored eight points on 4-of-8 shooting with 12 rebounds, four assists and one block in 27 minutes off the bench in Friday’s overtime loss to the Raptors.
Jokic has looked fine this season but because he’s not producing he has lost a little confidence and he has the look of a guy that is tired of running the floor to never get rewarded. He has gotten a lot of criticism and Michael Malone had some interesting comments about him after the game, saying that expectations are out of line. There are two things to take away here. The first is that Malone isn’t ready to crown him with 25-plus mpg. The other is that he’s probably a little bit pissed about having his rotations questioned. And he’s also defending his guy.
The Nuggets are clearly showcasing their vets and the rotations are a mess. Jokic owners should not be panicking as the cream rises to the top and he will continue to improve as the year goes on. It just might not happen as fast as everybody would have liked.
I asked Michael Malone if he thinks Nikola Jokic is taking steps and getting back to the player he was last year. His answer surprised me: pic.twitter.com/vaHbXsGmWh
