The Nuggets will go small against the Pelicans on Wednesday, choosing to start Will Barton at small forward, Wilson Chandler at power forward and Kenneth Faried at center, meaning Mason Plumlee will come off the bench.
It’s an interesting tactic that is meant to get Boogie Cousins more involved in defending the perimeter and running the floor. As the primary offensive option, he’s not going to get any possessions off in this one and Denver is hoping that it wears him down. Barton should’ve been owned in all leagues anyway but typically has big nights when he starts, so keep an eye on him for this one. Chandler operates best at power forward so this could also do some good for him, though he’s not on the standard league radar this season. Plumlee and Faried shouldn’t see much change, even if they’re no longer in the starting five together. Both are best left for deeper leagues, though Plumlee’s passing ability does give him higher upside. This is expected to be a one-game arrangement unless things go very well.
