Denver Nuggets president Tim Connelly said Wednesday the team is willing to use the stretch provision to clear up cap room this summer.
With the assumption that the Nuggets will sign Nikola Jokic to a long-term contract, the team will be over the luxury tax even before they have a chance to sign free agents. The stretch provision allows a team to waive one player and stretch the money due to them over double the time remaining on the contract plus one year. With Darrell Arthur and Kenneth Faried on the last year of their deals they could waive one and divide the money over three years – allowing them to get very close to being under the luxury tax.
