Patrick Patterson led Toronto’s bench unit in playing time on Thursday, logging 23 minutes and chipping in seven points, five boards, an assist, two steals and a triple.
Patterson has always been one of the Raptors’ finest, most versatile defenders and he delivered in a big way tonight. With Serge Ibaka and P.J. Tucker in foul trouble it was Patterson who was called on to defend The Greek Freak and Khris Middleton at times in the second half. He also threw down a dunk that tied the game in the final minutes after Milwaukee erased a 25 point deficit with a furious comeback. Patterson will never be a terrific scorer or fantasy player but is a huge part of Toronto’s defensive scheme. While he’s seen his playing time take a hit with the arrivals of Ibaka and Tucker, he remains a vital part of the team.
