New Hawks GM Travis Schlenk said that Paul Millsap is a priority signing but he may receive better offers elsewhere.
Schlenk did reiterate that re-signing Millsap is of chief importance but mentioned that there may be more enticing offers from other teams. “We’d like to have him. The reality is, he might get better offers than we can make him,” Schlenk said in a veiled attempt to say that a max offer from the Hawks is unlikely. The Hawks are being cautious as Millsap would be in his age-38 season by the end of a max offer totaling $205 million over five years. The rest of the league can offer him up to a total of $152 million over four years so it will be interesting to see how this summer plays out for one of the top free agent power forwards after Blake Griffin.
